Hey buggy/kart guys
Permalink

Looking to buy a buggy for the girlfriend and kids. Looking to spend around 1000 or trade my 50cc arctic cat atv. Wanting one close to stock so the kids got to keep it slow. They are driving gravel roads and easy trails. Looking at the kandi spider, bms, rotela 150cc I think. They have a bunch of different names for the same frame from the looks of it. Or maybe the power plant is different. I am just starting my research. Any info or better buggy ideas I would love to hear. Thanks.

for around $1000 your not gonna get anything new in the 150cc size, they start around $1600-1700.
If you check on craigslist you can find a few deals on some.

What do you think of the first one you listed tj. That is the one I am thinking of buying? Is the price right? Only complaint aboug them is turning radius. I like your brothers but want one close to stock due to kids riding it.

Turning radius can always be modified... I had to do it to mine, I just took out the dremel and ground 2 new slots on the rack. It looks pretty good, and the price seems reasonable. He may go down a hundred or 2 with cash in hand, doesn't hurt to ask.

Going to look at it tomorrow. Anything I need to pay attention to on it? Don't like the color but looking more for reliable than looks.

Ok tj I am a official buggy owner. Got the first one on the list. It is a beast. Fits my 6'3 friend with room to spare. 07 suul 150cc has reverse, with original tires with almost new tread. Looks almost brand new. I would guess very low hours. Always garaged. He came down 400 off price. Now what to mod, needs more get up and go up hills.

Well, there are just the cheaper mods like, the uni filters and new jetting, high performance cdi, Cam kits, and a high performance coil. Then there are the more expensive ones like Big bore kits, there are the bolt and go ones witch only go up to 155cc... then there are the ones were you have to get the case board out to fit the piston sleeve... they go up to 180 even 200+cc if you add the higher stroke crank kit.

Also depending on what size your main sprocket is you may be able to change it too.
you got a good price on that, good job!

Just ordered the cdi. That seems like the most bang for the buck with the least work. I'll quit buggin ya tj and dig in some of the buggy forums. This seems like the most used and easy to mOd motors I have ever seen.

Hey tj. I see your on all the buggy fourms. Will the sprocket you ordered work on mine? Also do I need a new chain? I think the cdi, sprocket and main jet to 130 will do it for me. Maybe a uni filter but if I don't buy new exhaust I don't know how much of a improvement.

Yep, I get around! lol, The sprocket I ordered may or may not work, it depends on your bolt pattern. Also, check to see your tooth count to see if you even need the upgrade. Stock, mine was 31T, then I bumped up to 39T (lower speed, tons more low end power).

If you go up to the 130main jet, then you will probably need to go with the uni to get more air to the mix. I did it and felt the difference without upgrading my exhaust, but I'm sure it could be hit and miss.

Just remember with the gy6 150 ebay can be your friend, there are tons of upgrade crap on there for great prices, the engine is used in most of the 150cc scooters on the road. But beware there is the 2 and 4bolt head version of the gy6, the 2bolt is not found so much. The 4 bolt head is the main one everyone uses.

Well ordered the sprocket, cdi, uni, vel stack, and carb jet. This should give me the bottom end I am looking for. And I am hoping the new cdi will move the rpm up so I don't loose top end. I not sure if I will need a new chain for the sprocket. How hard is the sprocket change on these? Also ordered a speedometer so I can chart what the improvements do. Amazing how cheap all these mods are. Under 100 bucks and should be 50% improvement in acceleration and at least 30% improvement in hp. Top end should be about the same or a little lower.

Thanks for the help tj. I read a bunch of your other posts on other boards and they really helped me out.

This week I should have the 800 fixed. Waiting thermostat. If all the buggy parts come in and I have it up and going may take a trip to moolight or st joes to try it out.

Got everything except the sprocket on it. Holy crap what a difference. I was topping out at around 35mph and couldn't pull easy hills. After just cdi, new jet, vel stack, Uni filter and 15 minutes I now top out at 54mph and can pull hills. Still can't pull steep hills but hoping the sprocket will take care of it. Might have to leave the stock sprocket and go with the cvt upgrade kit but well see. I don't mind losing 5-10 mph top end to be able to pull hills.

The alignment is also way off too so fixing that may make it a bit quicker.

Also what do you keep your tires at tj? The guy I got it from had them at 30psi and it rides like a tank. I was thinking 5-6 psi max.

I had my back tires at 5 or so psi, and front at 10, they had a rating of 21psi max. The sprocket change will make a big difference, it can be hard taking off the bearings but it is worth it. Also the internal gearing might be high, so you can look into that.
